Silver Mountain produces handcrafted premium wines from its mountaintop winery and certified organic vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Just 20 minutes from either Los Gatos or Santa Cruz, visitors to the winery enjoy one of the area's most spectacular views looking out to Monterey Bay and the surrounding redwood forest. Started in 1979 by Jerold O'Brien, Silver Mountain is celebrating 32 years making fine wine in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The winery is known for its Pinot Noir; Chardonnay produced from its organically-farmed estate vineyard; and its Bordeaux blend, that we call 'Alloy'. Handcrafted with a passion for quality, Silver Mountain's wines possess exquisite, complex flavors that are delicious now and also benefit from aging.
Silver Mountain is a member of The Summit Wineries group along the Summit Wine Trail, that also includes Burrell School, Regale Winery, Villa del Monte, and MJA Vineyards. Silver Mountain is a leader in organic and sustainable vineyard and winery practices, growing organically in its estate vineyards and using winegrapes from other sustainable vineyards. The 6000 sq. ft. Triple Green Canopy and 46 kilowatt solar array at Silver Mountain, built in 2009, is the largest solar array in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The roof shades the winery and reduces refrigeration requirements in the summer; is part of a rainwater collection system to be used for vineyard irrigation and winery operations; and the solar array supports the energy requirements of the winery operations, office and residence.
Eagles and pilots soar above the clouds and enjoy a high altitude view of the earth below. Perhaps that is why Silver Mountain is located on a mountaintop at 2100' in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where visitors enjoy dramatic views to Monterey Bay. Founded in 1979 by Jerold O'Brien, a retired military pilot, Silver Mountain has endured and persevered through floods, landslides, fires, and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, that destroyed the original winery. With the improved, gravity-fed winery, finished in 1995, and the addition of consulting winemaker Anthony Craig, recognized in particular for Pinot Noir, Silver Mountain is producing Gold Medal-winning wines. Silver Mountain's handcrafted premium wines are known for rich, complex, balanced flavors and aging potential; and include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, its Bordeaux blend 'Alloy', Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel.
